After careful consideration of the current events surrounding the growing impact of COVID-19 and following directives from Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Public Health we have made the difficult decision to postpone the Harper Classic. Thus, the race will NOT be held Saturday, April 18th, 2020. Our primary concern is the safety of our participants, race volunteers, and community!
This is not a surrender; we are temporarily falling back to regroup. The mission will go on!
We fully intend to reschedule the Harper Classic for a later date this summer. Since experts do not yet have estimates for how long this public health issue will last (thus how long we will be advised to avoid large gatherings), we cannot confidently reschedule a date at this time, but hope for mid-July. We will continue to follow the advice of public health officials and continue to work hard as we plan for what has become one of the premiere events in the area.
Personally, this has been an emotionally difficult decision to make. Brad was a close friend and the Semper Fi Fund literally has saved my life, but I feel it’s our social and moral responsibility to contribute to the COVID-19 solution. Ultimately it places the health and safety of individuals in our community, above all else. This includes the more than 300 disappointed loyal (and new) participants and friends that have been looking forward to honoring Brads legacy of a Life of Service by helping us give back to those communities that Brad was passionate about.
With those thoughts in mind, the Harper Classic has been temporarily postponed. We’ve identified Three options for participants to continue their Harper Classic experience:
1. Postponement: Join us on our new weekend later this summer. We will automatically transfer your entry over to the new date. We will post updated information as it becomes available. Registration will remain open leading up to the new date.
2. Virtual Race: Complete the Harper Classic on your own, Submit your results online through RunSignUp and receive your Finishers Medal and Shirt shortly after the Harper Classic takes place later this summer. Registration will remain open leading up to the new date.
3. Donation: You can convert your registration to a donation. It will be used to help to continue Brads legacy of a Life of Service by supporting the Tri-Valley Endowment Brad Harper Scholarship and the Semper Fi Fund.
We ask that you select the option that fits you best by April 18, 2020 so we can begin planning for our tentative July date accordingly.
We have a no refund policy. However, we realize this is an unprecedented time and the above three options may not work for everyone. Before requesting a refund, please remember our organization donates our time and services for this event so that as many funds as possible go to the organizations it supports. Our funds are vital to the on-going health of our organization and our partner organizations. If you feel you have extenuating circumstances, please contact the email below
We appreciate your patience through this process, and we will continue to keep our participants informed as we move forward. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me personally at the following email: nick@muskingummultisports.com I hope you have a great week and stay safe
